Superannuation: allow an additional 12% when required
Australia's super guarantee rate is currently 12%. It applies to eligible employees and can also apply to some independent contractors when the contract is principally for their labour. Having an ABN or calling someone a contractor does not, by itself, remove a payer's super obligation.
Example:$500 performance fee+ $60 super at 12%= $560 total payer cost, plus GST if applicable
- The booking or quote should state whether the performance fee is inclusive of super, plus super, or not subject to super.
- Super is generally paid to the entertainer's nominated complying super fund—not added to the entertainer's ordinary bank payment.
- The payer must determine whether the engagement creates a super obligation; Glam Entertainment cannot decide employment status for either party.
- From 1 July 2026, eligible employee super is generally payable each payday under Payday Super rules.

Actual quotes vary by state, city, regional travel, event date, performer demand, band size, rehearsal, production, equipment, accommodation, GST, super obligations, set length and total time on site. Weddings, public holidays, New Year's Eve and custom productions are commonly higher.
- Employees may be covered by the Live Performance Award; independent contractors set commercial fees differently.
- Always state whether GST, super, travel, PA, lighting, special songs, overtime and accommodation are included.
